Spent just a couple hours the day after my last post gluing on the first half of the fender struts. Since I only have 8 clamps (so far, and one is in use on my skirt pencil jig for marking hemisphere positions), I had to put the 14 struts on over the course of two days.

So, the following day (today), I did just that. They are drying as we type.

I gave a leering, sidelong glance at the dreaded, measured-by-guesswork-instead-of-by-the-precise-millimeter-dimensions-that-I'm-used-to shoulder base, marked on my 1/2" piece of plywood. Heaving a dramatic sigh that would have made Captain Jack Harkness swoon, I picked up my jigsaw and started to cut.

And I think I did okay! After I finished cutting it out, I took my orbital sander to it and smoothed out the rougher spots that weren't quite the precise arc I wanted. I don't think anyone would be able to tell that it's probably not quite symmetrical!

My only concern is that, while it's not overlapping the edges of the skirt top (deliberately, so as to make room for the eventual overlapping HDF bands I need to apply), it's still pretty close. Not sure if I need to perhaps belt-sand a few millimeters off all the way round. And if that's the case, I'll feel a bit ill, since I think I did a pretty good job shape-wise. I really don't want to screw it up.

So, for my next trick, I'll apply the 7mm (and perhaps 9mm) fender pieces tomorrow, and get this fender that much closer to being done! Then, I'll have a proper two pieces to stack!
