Day 16 - Moar fender fun!

(Originally posted on August 6th, 2013)

Got back from my vacation to San Francisco on Monday, and got to gawk at all the goodies that my mom and dad brought over!  Two routers (lots of bits for it, including a nice-sized 45° bit!), a table saw, a miter saw, a scroll saw, and a shop vac!  It was a bit too late on Monday to work, took a long time to get home from the airport, plus I was feeling a bit under the weather.

The next day, was still feeling fairly ill, but I started to recuperate throughout the day.  Toward the lat afternoon, I set to work cutting the pieces to the fender with the miter saw.

From these smaller pieces, I was able to make a strut support template on HDF and trace out several more onto 3/4" plywood, like AdamSt's build diary.  I used the scroll saw for the template, the table saw to make several 11cm squares, and the jigsaw to cut out all 14 struts from that.  Repetitious, but I think it will eventually be well worth the effort.

Finally, I took to the miter saw for the compound angle cuts, using Peekaymac's fender plans.  This made my brain flip around a few times, as I tried to figure out how to cut both the A and B sections of each piece.  But I eventually got there, and here are the finished results.  I'll add the struts to the fender top tomorrow, let that cure, and probably start jigsawing the shoulder section base.

Great to be back!
